Ring-a-ding-ding-dong

I love reading the blog Bower Power, that Katie just cracks me up. Recently she did a post about replacing her doorbell and it got me thinking..."hmm, I wonder what my doorbell looks like!?" Turns out it looks like a mess! I went to check it out and found this:

And with my lovely brushed nickel door hardware and kick plate?! SUPER ICK! Something had to be done right away. Luckily I knew just the tool needed...spray paint. See, there is nothing wrong with our doorbell except for my hatred towards brass so it was silly to replace the whole thing. And it probably would've required hubby assistance which would've lead to the 'man, you're crazy' look from Loren...and I try hard to avoid getting that. :) Anyway...back to the task at hand. First thing I did was remove the doorbell cover. It was pretty easy but the actual button required a little elbow grease to remove.

At this point I was ready to paint. I turned to my go-to spray Paint; Rustoleum. It's a miracle in a can. I'm starting to think that you can do just about anything with spray paint. I just gave that little brass sucker a few coats of silver paint and bam! Awesomeness!

Then I just reinstalled the button and screwed the cover back into place.

I think it looks so much better. I know it's not something most people will even notice but it makes me feel better. What do you think? And does anyone else love spray paint as much as I do?!

  1. I'm so glad you did this and it turned out well because this has been on my to-do list for forever. I also want to spray the knocker on the door too. Glad to hear Rustoleum worked well for you, that's what I plan to use, except the nickel kind.
