I've been looking at sewing machines online and at JoAnn's but just feel like I don't know what's what. I don't want to spend a lot of cash-ola so I've been trying to limit my search to around $100. Here's a few machines I've been peeping:
This is the Brother 25-stitch XL-2600i. It seems nice. And less than $100. Woot woot! Pretty good reviews too.
There is also the Brother 50-stitch Limited Edition. This has excellent reviews and is a Project Runway Limited Edition machine which makes me feel like it's fancy. It's pricey though. I'm also not sure about 50-stitches. Is that really necessary? This might be a bit too fancy for little ol' me.
The last one I found that seemed reasonable was the Brother 10-stitch. The reviews are a little lower than the other machines and it has less stitches BUT it's the cheapest. So, I guess you get what you pay for huh?!
I looked at some Singer brand machines but it seems like the ones in my price range weren't getting very good reviews. But I'm a total newbie when it comes to sewing machines so I'd would MAJORLY appreciate any input you might have. I'd really like to get a machine soon because I'm chopping at the bit to start making stuff! So please please please with sugar on top leave me a comment with some helpful hints. I'll be forever greatful. Maybe I'll make you some pajama pants. Apparently that's how you learn to sew, by making jammies. :)

Oh I wish I could help you choose, but I have the WORST luck when using a sewing machine. Im mean just awful!! My sweetie bought me one awhile ago and I desperatley wanted to use it in our brand new house....but alas, I cannot even thread the obbin correctly!! I love your dear blog and am your newest follower :0)
ReplyDeleteI took a sewing class like 2 weeks ago at Joann's. I thought it was good because you can try the sewing machines out and get a professional opinion. What I learned: if you are just starting out, a 99 dollar one is going to be plenty for you. The teacher didn't even know how to use the fancy designs. I suggest taking the sewing 101... it was like 35 dollars. Hope that helps :)
ReplyDeleteI was looking for a sewing machine too and considering that Brother 10-stitch since it was the most affordable in our area. It has been a long time since I used a machine but the one that I had when I was in highschool was a second hand (can't even remember the brand) that was from Japan. No manual, no service center. I learned by tinkering and after few months know how it work (i'm around 13y/o that time). Unless you will be doing some complicated sewing like jeans and bags, this one will do,on my opinion. {sorry, long post}
